Product Review: Pro Lace Hair Extensions

It's Tuesdayyy! 4 more days til Friday and my long-awaited road trip to Miami! :) Yay!

I am elated to report about my newest hair accessory obsession. During my previous color appointment, I decided to try clip-in hair extensions. None of the samples matched my hair very well, so my color had to be custom ordered. They finally arrived a few days ago... These are 100% human hair extensions shipped in from Africa. I met up with Jeanette, my fabulous stylist, on Saturday, and I literally cannot believe the difference. 

Clipped in straight, I love the way they look. However, there's an obvious differentiation between the two lengths of my hair, which is more of an edgy look. Curled is a very different story. Looks glamorous, natural, and straight up voluminous.

How do they work, you ask? When I arrived at the salon, I saw rows of hair laid out on a table (right). We pre-matched the color to a sample a few weeks ago (keep in mind, you can dye these if the color is too far off). The hair, which comes in a variety of length, width, and volume, is attached to an elastic band with clips for easy application. Jeanette brushed them out, partitioned my hair into sections, and lightly teased the root of my hair before applying. She gently clipped in each extension to its designated spot (5 in the back, 2 on each side) and texturized the ends of my natural hair to better blend with the Pro Lace. It took approximately 5 minutes (with her Stephanie tutorial included-- I'm so slow to pick up beauty trends, it's pathetic) to clip them all in, and voila--volume city!



Now, I have had extensions before, and I never wanted to try the clip-ins until Jeanette persuaded me... I had a preconceived notion that they'd be cheaper, fake-looking, and a waste of time in the morning. However, as a contender in Miss Florida with over-processed and damaged blonde hair, I had bonded extensions to increase volume. They looked fabulous and gave my hair amazing dimension, but were seriously painful. Every time I wet my hair, it was an automatic tear factory... the pressure on my scalp was borderline unbearable. I won't lie; the clips-ins feel just as heavy, but you can avoid getting them wet if desired (which Jeanette highly recommends) and obviously remove them whenever they start to agitate your head, which is a luxury I didn't have before. Also, the bonded extensions lasted around 3 weeks (with some incidents of falling out sporadically), and even though they technically can be put back in, the hair looked worn and tethered. Since the clip-ins are removed every night (especially if properly maintained), that won't be the case for you. If you can't already tell, I'm definitely a bigger fan of the clip-ins! Oh, and the clip-ins are less inexpensive. Deal maker. 

Again, mine were custom ordered, but you can find something very similar from the same brand online here. They're reasonably priced for the quality (around $75 for 7 pieces) and do wonders for your hair, especially if it's flat or damaged. The fact that I can clip these babies in and out for a different look in under 5 minutes makes me one happy lady. Be sure to read the directions//information about care and maintenance for optimal results//preservation, since they are an expensive accessory.
